Hi my name is Kalina Pawlowicz and I just graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a double major in Marketing and Finance and certificate in Digital Media. I am traveling to Prague in just a few short weeks to fulfill the last requirement for my certificate in Digital Media. I am originally from Westchester, New York, a large county just north of New York City. I fell in love with Pitt and the city of Pittsburgh and decided to stay in the area and I am going to be living in South Side post grad. I will be working for DICK’s Sporting Goods as part of their Merchandising Training Program that begins on September 4th. I interned at Dick’s last summer and absolutely loved the experience and cannot wait to return full time! While at Pitt I was involved in Gamma Sigma Sigma service sorority, Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity, Women in Business, Sigma Alpha Lamda and also participated in intramural basketball and volleyball. I am currently at home in New York preparing for my summer abroad and doing research on what to bring and where to go.
I have really enjoyed completing my certificate in Digital Media through the College of General Studies and feel that finishing my last course in Prague will be a perfect finish to the certificate and my college career. I have been wanting to go to Prague for a while, the city seems so beautiful and magical and unlike anywhere else. I will be taking a course called Communication: Social power of Media at Charles University and will be living with other students taking the same course. The program is through CIEE and runs from May 20th to June 18th. I will be living with other students and will also have a CIEE flat buddy, a Charles University student who will be able to help with any questions about Czech day to day life. I will commute to Charles University Monday through Thursday via public transportation and the course will include lecture sessions as well as field trips.
I was drawn to the program because of the location in Prague and because of the recommendation of CIEE from a few friends who took courses with them in Europe in previous summers. I am very excited for the course and also excited to learn about a new culture, meet new people and also hopefully pick up some phrases in a new language! Outside of the classroom I am most excited to visit summer farmers markets on the weekends and try out new restaurants, as well as take day trips to nearby towns and cities. After my course finishes up in June I will travel to Barcelona, Croatia, Italy, Greece, Slovenia, Albania, Switzerland, England and France. I am hoping to gain experiences and knowledge that I can take into my first job and beyond. I cannot wait for my summer adventures and I am so grateful and feel so blessed to have the opportunity to go!
