Hi all and welcome to my blog! I am so excited to begin this incredible journey down undah in beautiful Sydney, Australia. January 16th cannot come any faster!
A little about me:
My name is Kendra Fang and I am a junior in Pitt Business. I am originally from the King of Prussia area in eastern Pennsylvania. At Pitt, I am majoring in Marketing and Supply Chain and minoring in Studio Arts. Needless to say, I love drawing and painting in my free time. I have played Ultimate Frisbee since 9th grade, and I currently play for the women’s club team at Pitt (Go High Voltage!). I plan on playing for Sydney’s women’s club team while I’m abroad, because I can’t go that long without playing and staying active! I also rock climb and already have bouldering gyms in Sydney starred in Google Maps.
Currently, I have a Graphic Design internship with the Division of Student Affairs on campus. I really enjoy digital art, which probably developed from my previous position as Advertising Director at Pitt Program Council. I had a Supply Chain internship in the summer with Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream. Tangent time! Millie’s is honestly the best ice cream I’ve had in my life. It’s a Pittsburgh staple. And if you’ve been in Pittsburgh for more than a year and haven’t tried it, what are you doing??? If you ever visit Pittsburgh, TRY IT! I love this company with all my heart. I am so grateful I was able to spend a whole summer learning the ins and outs of a small local business, and of course all the free ice cream didn’t hurt. This summer, I look forward to returning from Sydney to start my Supply Chain Internship with PNC Bank.
So why did I pick to study abroad in Sydney? So. Many. Reasons. The weather, the beaches, the culture, the nature…the list goes on. My fascination for Australia actually started in 3rd grade. I had to do a class project on any country in the world, and I chose Australia. After reading almost every book in the library on Australia, I vowed to visit someday. I can’t believe it’s finally coming true!
I’m so excited to experience another culture for a whole semester. I think it will really help grow my independence and get me over my fear of public transportation. Pittsburgh buses still confuse me sometimes, three years later. I am super lucky that I can take classes that count towards my majors – that means still graduating on time, and taking the same classes…BUT JUST IN AUSTRALIA. I love Pittsburgh and all, but between below freezing temperatures and gray skies versus 90° weather and beaches in my back yard…the choice was simple. I am also excited to be able to intern while abroad. I really want to experience global business and see the similarities and differences in operations between the USA and other countries, and this is the perfect opportunity.
