Cameron’s Must-Sees of Sydney

As I write this post, we have just under a month left on this program. I’m so appreciative of my opportunity to come to Sydney and study for 3 months. Sydney has so much to offer and is one of the best cities I’ve ever visited. That being said I’d like to share some of my favorite parts of the city.

There are so many different things to do in Sydney. It has beaches, parks, ethnic neighborhoods, and many restaurants and bars. The city has so much to offer and I couldn’t come close to seeing or doing everything there is. One of my favorite areas in Sydney is Manly. I’ve mentioned it before in previous posts and will again now. The Manly area is so beautiful and it really is everything I thought Sydney would be before I arrived. Manly beach still my favorite in Sydney, but there are other beaches in the area like Collins Beach where you might be able to see penguins if you go during the right season. Along with the beaches, the restaurants, stores, and markets in the area give you a lot to do. I even got to attend a surf competition on the beach. Each time I go to Manly I find something new or somewhere new to go.

There are a couple of must-see places if you come to Sydney, the most well-known being the Sydney Opera House. The Opera House lies in the Sydney Harbor area and is one of the coolest buildings in Australia. When people think of Australia, they think of the Opera House, although I haven’t been to a show just being around it is special to me. Another important landmark in the area is the Harbor Bridge. The bridge is another symbol of Sydney and Australia and it makes for some really beautiful pictures. You can pay to climb to the top of the bridge to get an amazing view of the city, but if you don’t like heights like me then a view from the ground will do.

Another one of my favorite areas in the city is The Rocks. Like the Opera House, The Rocks is right by the water and is in a beautiful area. There is so much to do in the area, it has markets, bars, restaurants, museums, and more. There are lots of amazing and historic restaurants from all different ethnic groups in the area. On the weekends they set up tents for markets throughout the day. At the markets they have food and native Australian goods to buy. The Rocks also has one of my favorite restaurants in Sydney, El Camino Cantina. El Camino is a Mexican style restaurant with good food and drinks and a great atmosphere. They also have good deals throughout the week like 10 cent wings on Wednesdays!
