Hey everyone! Just to update you all- I am currently back in the good ole United States (currently writing this post during my layover in the LAX airport). I think this is a bittersweet moment for me as I was extremely sad to leave Sydney but happy to come back home and start my next adventure interning over the summer in California.
Now that I am home, I can’t help but wonder what it would be like if I lived in Sydney full time, perhaps after graduation (I can’t say the thought didn’t cross my mind multiple times throughout my trip). After living in one city for a solid 3 ½ months, I can honestly say I was very settled into my routine and ~almost~ felt like a local. I could navigate public transportation like a pro and my co-workers even remarked how much of the city I explored in such a short amount of time. I think if I had the opportunity to move to Sydney for a longer period of time, say a year or two, I would love to live in the Darling Harbour area. This neighborhood is right in the center of Sydney so it’s close to everything and has absolutely amazing views of the harbour. I would probably have to get some roommates because the cost of living in Australia, especially rent, is extremely high. But this time around I think I would try to live with a local Australia who can show me around the city.
Additionally, if I had more time in Australia I would try to explore more of the hidden bars, restaurants, and local neighborhoods in Sydney. While I did feel like I accomplished a lot during my time in Sydney, there was definitely some places that I did not get to visit and/or would like to go back.
Ultimately this experience has opened my eyes to a world of opportunities regarding my future. The possibilities are endless and there are so many amazing cities to explore…who knows what my future will hold?
