Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Carley Hess and I am from Lancaster County Pennsylvania. I am a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh. I am a Human Resources Management major in the college of business administration, and have a Spanish minor as well. When I am not studying or working, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I am very excited for the adventure I am about to experience abroad. I have traveled in the past and have a love for it that I know will only grow throughout my time abroad. I chose the program Pitt in Spain, where I will be studying the Spanish language in Alcalá de Henares. I chose this program because I wanted to really be able to work on my Spanish speaking skills first hand. I believe that studying abroad will help me to become more cultured and more familiar with other parts of the world. I look forward to speaking Spanish with native speakers and experiencing everything the beautiful country of Spain has to offer. I believe I will grow through this experience personally by broadening my horizons and really immersing myself fully in the Spanish language. This will help me to develop better communication skills and to help me be more culturally aware. During my month in Spain I believe that I will grow as a person. I would love to come home with new lifelong friends and new interests that I discover while abroad. This program will help me academically by helping me gain credits towards my Spanish minor and by helping me to improve my Spanish skills in general, so that when I return back to school I will flourish in my remaining Spanish classes. Professionally, having the knowledge of a second language will help me in my career field of Human Resources, which involves dealing with different types of people on a daily basis. Knowing as second language will help me to be an asset to the company I work for in the future and will help me to be better at my job. I hope that with these skills I gain abroad I will someday be able to use Spanish in my life as often as possible, because that is something I am very passionate about. I am excited for this new experience and am excited to be able to blog about my experiences and share them with others.
