The London Times

I really have been having the time of my life in London! Prior to my arrival, I was really nervous and unsure of what to expect during my time here, but I could not be more pleased. I knew what classes I would be taking and my internship placement, but I did not know much about where I would be living, who I would be living with, and how I would be able to navigate the city, among other things. Luckily, I have been able to get along great with my two roommates. Our flat is not air conditioned, which really becomes an issue on hot summer days, and the clothes dryers here are not all that great so I have been getting used to air drying, but overall, I love my cozy flat that is conveniently located right in the heart of Camden. I even now feel like I have mastered the tube, a huge achievement! At first, it was impossible for me to go anywhere without my navigation app guiding me through every stage. Now, I feel confident enough to go on the tube and have a relaxed journey, reading the Evening Standard, and be sure that I will not miss my stop. On the whole, my experience has been absolutely amazing, but of course there are some struggles I still have dealt with during my time abroad.

One of the biggest issues I have faced is the lack of time! Balancing classes, schoolwork, my internship, and being able to see all of the sites both in and outside of London seems nearly impossible. Add trying to have any semblance of a healthy sleep schedule and it becomes literally impossible. I have found being proactive in my schoolwork so helpful when dealing with this problem. By getting my schoolwork out of the way early, it leaves me less time to stress over my assignments and more time to explore the city. I also have tried to make doing my schoolwork a bit more exciting by bringing all my work to one of the lovely parks in London or a cute coffee shop so that when I am done with the work, I am already conveniently in a place that I can explore, and even sometimes get an amazing latte while I am at it. Getting my schoolwork done during the week also means that I can use my weekends to explore other countries or cities in Britain. So far I have been able to visit Stonehenge, Bath, Amsterdam, and Zurich! It has been really great to be able to see different parts of Europe while I am here. Now, I am excited to continue to explore more in London with my last weeks!
