Emerging Area of Information Systems (IS) That You Are Familiar With:  Based on the IS-related areas that are identified in these slides, identify one specific emerging area of IS that you already have familiarity and experience with.  What is the value added by this area of IS?

I am already familiar with mHealth.  Personally, I have an Apple Watch, which has a heart rate sensor.  The sensor regularly scans my heart rate and will alert me if there appears to be any concerning changes.  The Apple Watch also has an ECG, which can scan for AFib.  Apple has made health a focus of the Apple Watch and other Apple products for the future.  The spread of health technology in wearables is helping alert consumers to certain risks they may have.  Apple has made its focus prevention of health issues, rather than treatment.

Emerging Area of Information Systems (IS) That You Are Less Familiar With/Would Like to Learn More: Based on the IS-related areas that are identified in these slides, identify one specific emerging area of IS that you are less familiar with, but would like to learn more/gain experience with.  What is the value added by this area of IS?

Big data is an interesting concept that I would like to understand better.  Big data gathers large sums of data over periods of time and uses them to show current trends that can be utilized to predict future trends.  Having a better understanding of what the future might look like is an extremely valuable tool that companies should be investing in.  Specifically, this technology can be used to predict market swings, which could be invaluable to investing firms.

Other Examples Like This?:  Based on the IS-related material that you see in these slides, what specific areas do you likely to see as a big part of your career and professional development (i.e. where do you want to gain experience in internships and your first jobs)?

I think in the future for my career, the most important IS-related technology will be big data and artificial intelligence.  These two systems could be used in tandem to make predicting the future much easier.  Big data gathers massive amounts of information and analyzes it.  When paired with big data, artificial intelligence would be a tool that can save companies both time and money.  Companies would be able to quickly asses the trends in markets and react accordingly, or even have the artificial intelligence make a plan on how to react.  These two systems could also be used in a personal setting, using AI to invest in the stock markets and in mutual funds.  With big data and artificial intelligence paired together, the future of business could look very different in a few years.
