Emerging Area of Information Systems (IS) That You Are Familiar With: Based on the IS-related areas that are identified in these slides, identify one specific emerging area of IS that you already have familiarity and experience with. What is the value added by this area of IS?
One area I’m pretty familiar with is the VR/AR scene. I’ve played VR games with my friends and its mind blowing to see what you can do and how that might advance. On the AR side, all the fellows have been playing Pokémon Go which utilizes that. I wouldn’t be able to do anything directly with this area because I’m not a tech guru but this is such a new field and up and coming entrepreneurs who specialize in this will definitely be looking for people to help in the business side and business students could definitely help with that.
Emerging Area of Information Systems (IS) That You Are Less Familiar With/Would Like to Learn More: Based on the IS-related areas that are identified in these slides, identify one specific emerging area of IS that you are less familiar with, but would like to learn more/gain experience with. What is the value added by this area of IS?
One avenue of IS I’m not very familiar with is cyber security. Apart from having a couple of “strong” passwords I don’t really know anything about keeping our information safe. As the world is growing more and more into the cyber world, keeping all your information secure is so vital. For a business, keeping all your records, plans, and other sensitive information safe will be increasingly more important as companies continue to go more cyber.
Other Examples Like This?: Based on the IS-related material that you see in these slides, what specific areas do you likely to see as a big part of your career and professional development (i.e. where do you want to gain experience in internships and your first jobs)?
Big Data appears to be a field that is going to affect everyone moving forward. No matter what your area of expertise is, big data, from what I can understand (which isn’t much), is going to make things simpler for people in terms of collecting data and analyzing things such as risk or fraud detection. Any position you have in a company will likely run into one of these things, if not others that Big data affect, and your job will probably be made easier if you understand how to read and use the data.
