Vertucci – August 10 – Reflections

In Ireland, we went on many company visits that aided in my professional development. For example, at FoodCloud, I saw how important the social and environmental impact of a company can be because they really make a difference when saving food waste and redistributing to charities that help those in need. Professionally, this visit helped me realize I want to work for a company in the future that makes a difference in the community or world. Additionally, at the DocuSign and Microsoft visits, I was reminded that technological knowledge is important, and I will need to grow my knowledge in that area to professionally grow.

In terms of personal development in Ireland, I learned a lot about Irish history and culture. Darren Kelly spoke a lot about historical events, and the Kilmainham Gaol tour was full of historical facts. I learned about the British’s impact on Ireland, the effects of the potato famine, and the leading figures and events behind the Irish revolution. Then I learned about Irish culture: the Irish cannot accept compliments, view road signs as “suggestions” not rules, will try to be the last person to hang up the phone, make small talk before getting down to business, and so much more.

I am really thankful to have had this opportunity to grow personally and professionally in Ireland.
