G’day mates! My name is Logan Yovetich and this semester I am studying abroad in Sydney, Australia through Pitt Business’s Global Business Institute. I am a marketing major pursuing the certificate in business analytics and chose to embark on this trip during the spring semester of my junior year. During my time here in “Straya” as the locals call it, I will be taking academic courses relating to my major in the business school while simultaneously working at an internship for a market research start-up company. Come along with me on my journey!
I am originally from the North Hills of Pittsburgh and decided to go to Pitt because of CBA’s notoriety as a top public business school in Pennsylvania. Although I disliked how close Pitt was to my hometown, I was thoroughly impressed with Pitt Business’s connections with some of the city’s more sought after companies and extensive options for study abroad programs. When I’m not in class at Pitt, I am involved in PGN Professional Development Organization and work in the Visual Lab at the American Eagle headquarters. I love corgis, watching HGTV, and trying out new restaurants in Oakland and downtown Pittsburgh!
I initially chose the Global Business Institute because of the program’s in depth look of a foreign culture for an entire semester. Although I considered other study abroad options, the GBI trips give students the greatest exposure to a global business hub for the longest amount of time. I wanted to fully immerse myself in the city’s culture by partaking in an international internship, which is the most prominent reason I chose this program. Less than 3% of university students across the United States have global work experience, so interning while abroad will certainly stand out on my resume and truly take my education “from the classroom, to the city, to the world”! I have always loved traveling and visiting new places, and found the GBI program to best meet my needs as a marketing student.
After I deciding to study abroad through a GBI program, I instantly knew I would come to Sydney. The city is known globally for its reputation as a leader in the marketing and analytics industry and I yearned to learn more about the formalities of Asia-Pacific commerce and how it differs from North American business practices. Additionally, only 60% of the Aussie population are Australian natives, so there is a massive fusion of cultures from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East; experiencing Sydney gives visitors a taste of all of these cultures at once! I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone on this trip and what better way to do so than to travel to the complete opposite side of the world! Although my journey here in Australia has just begun, I look forward to the life experiences I will gain this semester academically, personally, and professionally.
