Since Sydney is a hub for Finance and Marketing, I am able to take my academic skills and abilities and be able to use them on a broader scale. My goal is to be able to not only learn about the content of the courses I am enrolled in, but being able to apply those concepts to what is unique in the Asia-Pacific region. When I explore career opportunities in the future, I would be able to provide a unique perspective in the workplace and additional knowledge from my time in Sydney, which I could apply to job interviews, and additional work opportunities in the future. Sydney would also provide me with an additional network outside the United States where I would be able to connect with other professionals that could help my career. This past summer I had an internship in the Private Equity field, where I was exposed to the basics and foundation of Finance. Using this knowledge, I could gain a wealth of experience in the Finance world with my internship abroad, where I would be able to apply the same concepts I learned this past summer on a global scale with professionals here in Australia.
For the most part, I consider myself to be pretty independent. I realized that going abroad has helped me achieve a new level of independence. It definitely poses a challenge in creating a balance between work life, classes, and also enjoying my time with recreational activities and meeting new people. I think having this opportunity to be in a new country and having to go about a normal life is helping me grow as a person and will definitely influence and shape who I am as an adult. Initially, when you think on a larger scale, going abroad can seem terrifying, but when you think on a moment by moment basis, you are essentially stepping into another culture and taking the time to see the perspective of natives in their own country while comparing it to what you are used to in America. Having this opportunity enables me to think in a progressive and adaptive way, in the sense that it has helped me become more open and willing to adapt to any situation or circumstance presented to me in the future.
