Hi everyone! My name is Shannon Wischerath and I am a junior at the University of Pittsburgh. I am currently majoring in Accounting and Business Information Systems and am from Buffalo, New York. On campus, I am involved in PGN, a professional business organization and I am the Director of Fundraising for this upcoming fall semester. Outside of academics, I love to spend time with my friends and family, cook, and travel.

Last summer, I was fortunate enough to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina with the Plus3 Program at Pitt. I learned about the healthcare system here through site visits and lectures and learned the city through cultural activities on the weekend and late night dinners with my friends. Once coming home from those two weeks, I knew I wanted to study abroad again and soon, so from then on I had my sights set on studying in London for six weeks in summer 2020.

However, obviously everything changed when COVID hit. I was not going to let this stop me and once I learned of the program CAPA was offering to still gain not only professional experience but also international experience, as best could be with travel limited and remote work, I knew this was what I was going to do instead.

Working with CAPA, I was placed at a company called Accountant Online based in Dublin, Ireland. Over the next six weeks, I will be working in marketing analyzing social media of competitors and engagement to see what’s best as well as working in sales to chase leads and write emails to these leads. In addition, I will be categorizing the clients for the transition to a new CRM platform.

Through this program with CAPA and interning at Accountant Online, I hope to gain an understanding and the experience of what it is like to work remotely, let alone remotely for a company in another country with a time difference. I also hope to further develop my communication skills. Overall, I hope to gain a global knowledge of what it is like to work in another country.

I am very excited to be part of this program and am excited to learn everything I can from both CAPA and Accountant Online!
