Reflection

I have finished my remote internship and there is so much that I have learned throughout this experience. It has been interesting learning internationally while staying right here in Pittsburgh. Learning to work remotely has required a lot of time management and adapting but these skills will be helpful in the world after Covid.

Before starting this internship, I did not know what the internship would be like. Many students have not done remote internships and to add the international part makes this an experience that is new for a lot of people. I did not have many people who could give advice on this internship. After completing this internship, I have learned how to work remotely and in my home space while learning about a different part of the world that is not close to me.

The skills that I learned in my classes were very useful in my internship. I could see what I was learning and was able to understand these better. What I learned in the internship were also useful in the classes. The experience was learning through the process and I was able to better my internship by using knowledge from classes.

One of the transferable skills that I learned during this internship was communication remotely. There are so many ways to communicate with people and each of these is different. There were times were I would email, call, text, and post online and each of these required a different sense of communication. This was also important because communication is different in different countries and this lead to learning new ways to communicate and learn different ways that things were interpreted in different countries. Because business is global, this skill is important in every business that is out there.

This experience got me outside of my comfort zone because I have never really looked into how other countries work and my internship was more than just finance. I had to work with social media and marketing skills. I was not as confident in these skills at the beginning of the semester. Throughout the internship, I learned more about marketing and got outside my normal realm of work.

This internship has taught me about working remotely and internationally. I feel like it has helped me to learn more as a student and as a person. I was able to learn better time management skills for my classes and also became more confident in my work. I had to do a lot of individual work and I am now more confident in my work and my classes. I am also a better problem solver and can use this in my future career as I will be able to apply this at any company that I work for. This internship also showed me that being willing to learn about new experiences and ways of working can be helpful. While I was not able to travel, I was able to learn about the company and the place of work from my room.
