Hello all, my name is Dylan Anton and I am a rising junior majoring in finance and supply chain management, and I am taking part in the International Internship program in Berlin this summer. I am originally from Ithaca, New York, and somehow I found my way to Pittsburgh. After two years I have fallen in love with this school. The people are fun, friendly, and hard working, I feel as if I am getting a great education, and I love the interesting personality that South Oakland has, it makes being a college student immensely fun. During my free time I love spending time with my friends no matter what it is; whether it is playing all of the golf courses in the area, going out to restaurants, or going to the gym, I am always enjoying myself.
I came to Pitt not really knowing where to focus my involvement. I was caught in between different social and professional organizations, and in my first semester at Pitt I eventually ended up joining Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity. DSP has helped me develop many different social and professional skills and has given me opportunity after opportunity to grow. I have now started giving back to the organization in any way I can. For example, this past semester my brothers elected me as our Assistant Pledge Educator, and I was recently elected as our Head Pledge Educator for the 2022-2023 school year. I will be in charge of teaching our new members the history and values of or fraternity, as well as teaching them many different professional skills like resume and LinkedIn development, interviewing, and networking.
I have been lucky enough to do a fair amount of travel in my life, and I have always loved German culture. My dad did a postdoctoral fellowship in Germany many years ago, and he believes it changed his life. He has always talked about the history of Berlin, and the times that he went into East Berlin when the wall was still up. This has led to me to be fascinated with Berlin’s dramatic history. Living in Berlin for eight weeks is incredibly intriguing to me as I feel like I will have the opportunity to learn so much more about the city of Berlin and about German culture.
This summer I will be working for a small start-up called Læmon. Læmon is a company that is creating a fashionable bracelet with built in silent and loud alarms along with other features. The goal of this bracelet is to help keep women safe when they are in public. They are currently in the phase where they are releasing their first products to the public, so I will be lucky enough to join during a phase that is incredibly eventful and exciting for everyone involved. Professionally, I believe this internship will be incredibly beneficial especially because it is with a start up. I will have many different roles and assignments and I will have to learn to adapt and develop many different new skills. I expect I will be watching a lot of YouTube videos to learn how to do all of these different things. I expect I will leave this internship after eight weeks knowing significantly more about finance and how businesses work, I also expect I will learn a lot about what I want to do for a career, as this is my first hands-on experience with finance. This is a super exciting opportunity, and I look forward to seeing everyones posts and also meeting everyone in the Berlin program!
