Tommy Burga- Haller Global Honors

on

My name is Tommy Burga; I am a first-year student at the University of Pittsburgh and plan to double major in Finance and Marketing. I am a Nordenberg Scholar and member of the Business Honors community. I have always been interested in the stock market, company acquisitions, and initial public offerings. Business Law and Economics interest me as well. In my spare time, I love to read classic novels like “The Giver, The Odyssey, and The Art of War.” I also enjoy taking pictures with my DSLR Nikon D3500; this allows me to relax, take a step back from school work, and appreciate Nature. I hope to continue taking photographs through college as I consider freelance photography a hobby. Last summer, I participated in Drexels Camp Business and was awarded a “Certificate of Excellence” for the Camp “Most Hardworking Participant.” I look forward to expanding my finance, economics, and marketing knowledge through various Pitt internships and Study Abroad opportunities.

The Haller Global Honors Fellowship is truly a unique and special opportunity for business students. As a First year student, I can work on a consulting project for an employer in Dublin, Ireland. I am pleased that my first experience in a college business class has an international component. Travel has always been a prominent aspect of my life as I have lived in England for two years. This will be the first time I have traveled since the pandemic, so I am very excited. Although I picked this program due to the consulting project in Dublin, I am impressed with the Managing in Complex Environments class. Discussions about Sustainability, shared value, and stakeholder engagement has taught me how to look at businesses differently. Understanding these concepts helps one understand the global market and globalization more effectively.
