Sydney, Australia… a Dream Come True!

Hey there! My name is Ananya Pabbathi, a rising senior at Pitt. I am pursuing a Dual Degree in Supply Chain Management and Psychology, with a Certificate in Business Analytics. When I’m not in classes, you can find me running, traveling, or hanging out with friends. From as early as I can remember, I knew my college career would not be complete without a study abroad experience. Australia has always been the #1 destination on my bucket list; specifically Sydney is the perfect placement for me as it is the central hub for key supply chain and marketing action, diversity, and offers countless excursion opportunities. The rich history, cultural affairs, and local society leaves much to be desired. I can proudly say I am currently 2 weeks into the GBI: Sydney Summer 2023 program! I knew this experience would be the most beneficial because it caters to my interest in international business and logistics/operations, and provides a dynamic experience learning about business curriculum whist simultaneously interning abroad.

This internship will bridge the gap between my college education and professional career for many reasons. Firstly, I will gain on-the-job experience in a very specific role to discover what really interests me and help set my priorities straight when considering a job, prior to making a major commitment. Additionally, by watching, learning, and participating in work abroad, I will broaden my technical and hard skill knowledge, and sharpen my communication skills. Specifically through the GBI: Sydney program, I hope to discover my true values and beliefs by immersing myself into a new culture, meeting people, and putting my problem-solving capabilities to the test in different environments. Another benefit of participating in this internship is networking with mentors and other peers, as well as pursuing opportunities that are once in a lifetime early on. By learning how to project myself in a global sphere as a young professional, I may gain a competitive advantage over other candidates in the job-recruitment process.

This summer, I am enrolled in two courses: the Global Internship Course and Sports Marketing. Simultaneously, I am interning at SalDoce Fine Foods: an award-winning health food company that creates and delivers allergen-free and gluten-free foods in a variety of products(i.e. Pancake batter, flour, cupcake mixes) and flavors(i.e. red velvet, vanilla, buttermilk). I work closely with seven intelligent, very driven individuals and have been tasked with completing 3 projects during my tenure. I will be completing the company’s annual stock take, organizing orders, and executing a cost comparison analysis among other duties. I have already noticed differences in the Australian vs American lifestyle, even in the corporate world. I am eager to learn more and gain invaluable experience in Sydney!
