Learning to make memories!

Hi!! My name is Lilli Kirk and I am an incoming junior at the University of Pittsburgh pursuing a degree in marketing with a certificate in sports management. While at Pitt I live off campus with my 5 best friends and I miss them so much!! Originally I am from a very small town in Lancaster, Pennsylvania so traveling across the world is very different to me! I am participating in the GBI London summer program. This program was perfect for me for so many reasons. I knew that I wanted to study abroad but not for a whole semester so studying abroad for 6 weeks is the perfect amount of time. This program offered the opportunity for an internship as well as taking a class. While here I am enrolled in a literature class to help me complete my general education requirements. The other aspect of my program is my internship, I am working for the London Basketball Association as a marketing intern. I am gaining credit for my internship and potentially fulfilling my project course requirement for my certificate. By the end of this program I hope to become confident in my working abilities, have the experience to move on to other internships, build my resume, and learn important skills that will benefit me on a global scale. On a larger scale I hope to become more culturally aware and gain experiences that I can carry with me for the rest of my life. I have officially been in London for two weeks and could not be more ecstatic about my experience thus far. I have met an amazing group of people that I love exploring with while gaining valuable knowledge of the different cultures the world has to offer.  Although I had many doubts the first week thinking “What am I doing here?” Those daunting ideas soon are forgotten once I realize where I am and the opportunities I have in front of me. My first impressions of London is how much this culture values making memories and how they cherish every moment. If I leave this program with one lesson I hope it is that. My first impression of my class is positive as well. My teacher encourages open discussion and teaches by taking us around the city for hands-on learning. Even though I have only been in London for a few weeks it has been indescribable how much I have learned through living here, my class, and internship; it has taught me so much about myself as well as the world around me.
