One of my favorite ways to study is by putting a soundtrack to a movie on. Recently I saw the Oppenheimer movie with the other Haller students, and so for our first paper I listened to the soundtrack again. Soundtracks can make you feel like you are part of an epic adventure (of writing a paper), and it becomes fun to think of yourself as a character in a movie. Additionally, most soundtracks are instrumentals and you don’t have to worry about lyrical content distracting you from your work. With this music, I’m looking forward to studying more technical classes such as math and programming because I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of them, compared to some of the more theory-focused business classes that are more of a soft science.
I think that as a business major, I am lucky enough to have a wide range of experiences compared to other majors that have a more narrow scope. It is easy to switch majors, and through the honors college there are plenty of other opportunities available because of Pitt Honor’s emphasis on interdisciplinary education. This means that I can get exposure to many different things throughout my time at Pitt and hopefully pick up new interests to carry with me throughout the rest of my life.
I want to make friends outside of the business school so that I can gain a better understanding of the many different fields people are looking to work in. Perspective is important for any field, and by seeing the different opportunities and challenges that kids throughout Pitt are facing, I can understand more about where my priorities should lie. Additionally, finding others that share this same perspective will be beneficial, and hopefully will encourage me to continue finding new opportunities and putting myself out there instead of getting comfortable with my situation.
