Dublin greatly suffered during the Great Recession in the early 2000’s and are still being challenged with a housing crisis. One opportunity to come from this is Dublin’s Docklands. Dublin’s Docklands is a center of the city that has been built over the past 20 years. Old, abandoned buildings are being rebuilt into new, modern homes and offices. This part of Dublin is a great fit for technology companies because it allows close communication between the U.S. and the rest of Europe, which is important when shipping products and talking through time zone changes. It also offers lots of opportunities for staffing. Large technology companies need a lot of staff to handle the many different aspects of the companies. By expanding in Dublin, the technology companies can create their own neighborhoods for their employees and have a large number hire of local unemployed people that they can hire.
Although the Docklands are very interesting, I don’t think I would want to be living or working in a place like it because problems are created through this gentrification. The prices of living in these places grow so high to the point that it can push out the local people that were already living there. This is problematic for cities like Dublin that already have a housing crisis. I wouldn’t want to pay the high prices of living or support the conflicts they cause.
