Cheers to Learning in London!

Cheers again! We are now three weeks in and life in London is beginning to feel like the new norm. Aside from the picturesque sights and memorable experiences, I’ve been enjoying my time in the classroom!

Sir John Soane’s Museum is a must!

The past few weeks have been essential in becoming acclimated to the bustling city and engaging classes that I’m taking over the next three months. Two of my classes here are marketing focused, International Marketing and Creative Connections: Advertising and Marketing in Britain. In addition to my major related classes, I am enrolled in Analyzing and Exploring the Global City London and Art Administration: The Creative Industries. These classes satisfy a social science and a music and art elective, respectively. Although on the surface it may seem as if the only difference between the US and Britain is what they consider a chip and the seeming lack of public restrooms, there are a plethora of underlying differences that separate the two countries. Through these courses, I have gained a glimpse into the minds of the European consumers, London lifestyle, and discovered a blooming interest in the arts!

In comparison to the courses I have completed at Pitt, the curriculum is heavily based on written assignments and projects. Additionally, all the courses I am taking while in London have a field aspect, that extends beyond the classroom such as attending art exhibitions, various neighborhoods, and museums! The class sizes are small, so it provides the perfect opportunity for a hands-on learning environment. One of my favorite aspects about the courses is the genuine connections that you can make with the professors and your classmates who come from so many varying backgrounds.

Trip to Stonehenge and Bath!

I have found that the ability to leave my comfort zone and willingness to participate frequently has been beneficial during my education here in London. Also, I learned quickly that being good at time management and organization is necessary for a successful time abroad. There are so many sights to see and bucket list experiences that can cause you to lose sight of your academic goals; therefore, paying attention to due dates and trying to complete assignments well ahead of time is extremely important. Overall, all these aspects have allowed me to fully immerse myself in the culture across the pond and I am eager to see what’s in store for the next three months!

Talk to you all again soon!
