Intern in London

Throughout my internship at Arden Fine Wine, an e-commerce company that specializes in wine sales, I’ve actively engaged in an essential position. Over the course of these weeks, my primary responsibility revolves around editing over 100 product drafts and seamlessly transferring information from Excel to both our website and eBay platform. This not only involves refining product descriptions but also optimizing images and other essential details to enhance the overall online shopping experience for our customers. Adding to the complexity of my responsibilities, every Friday is dedicated to a review of the suppliers’ price lists, cross-referencing them with our own price list.

I have made significant progress in achieving both my hard and soft skill goals as outlined in the Internship Objectives and Responsibilities form. Regarding hard skills, I have improved my SEO optimization skill by editing related phrases and images, implementing strategies to enhance the visibility of our products online. Additionally, I have demonstrated my proficiency in Excel, efficiently transferring data and ensuring accuracy in product drafts. On the soft skills front, I have actively worked on enhancing my time management abilities. The demanding nature of editing numerous product drafts and ensuring their timely publication has allowed me to refine my organizational skills. Moreover, I have consistently demonstrated a keen attention to detail throughout the editing process, ensuring the quality and precision of product information. The internship has not only provided a platform for skill development but has also been a testament to my adaptability and dedication to personal and professional growth.

Navigating through London’s cultural landscape as an American requires an open mindset, a principle that proves invaluable for both adapting to and learning from the rich diversity encountered daily. This approach becomes especially crucial when confronted with unexpected cultural norms and traditions that differ markedly from those in America, such as the interesting superstition surrounding the opening of umbrellas indoors—a practice I stumbled upon quite by accident, leading a surprising response from my coworker. This incident, though seemingly minor, underscored the depth of cultural nuances that exist and the importance of approaching them with curiosity and respect. The act of embracing and attempting to understand these cultural differences, from superstitions to local preferences like the choice between Pret coffee shops and Starbucks, is more than just an exercise in adaptation. It is a journey into the heart of what it means to be part of a global community. Observing and participating in local customs, even in something as simple as a daily coffee choice, serves as a window into the values and tastes of the local population. It’s through these everyday practices that one begins to appreciate the subtle yet profound ways in which cultures express their identity and preferences. The accumulation of such experiences, ranging from light-hearted cultural misunderstandings to the deliberate practice of local customs, plays a pivotal role in personal and cultural growth.
