About Angelina!

Hi! My name is Angelina and I am from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, about five hours east of the University of Pittsburgh! I am going to be a junior in the Fall and am majoring in business with specific interests in finance and accounting. During my time at Pitt, I work at HERE Pittsburgh apartments where I work as a leasing agent. In the office, I spend my time working with my assistant property manager, Autumn, and property manager, Morgan and my coworker leasing agents! We focus on answering phone calls, questions and concerns from prospects, and residential needs and concerns. Most importantly, we give tours of the apartment building and specialize in finding prospect’s individual needs to target them and assist them in finding exactly what they need.

My international internship program through Pitt is in Dublin, Ireland. I specifically chose Dublin because I would love to enjoy a more green landscape in my time abroad and because I love cities. Dublin also made me feel like it was the most comfortable choice as there is no language barrier between there and America as the majority speak English. Although I initially was more interested in choosing to go to Paris; however, the language barrier and requirements made that not an option. I am partially Irish and would love to learn even more about the culture and people there.

Personally, I hope to gain cultural awareness and sensitivity, living and working in a foreign country will immerse me in a new culture, fostering a deep appreciation and understanding of different traditions, customs, and social norms. This cultural immersion will broaden my worldview, making me more adaptable and open-minded.

Also, since I do not initially know anyone going on the trip, this will help me become adaptable in situations I wouldn’t previously be comfortable in. For networking and friendships, building relationships with people from diverse backgrounds can enrich my personal life as the friendships and networks formed during an international internship often last a lifetime and can become invaluable personal and professional contacts.

Academically, I will experience enhanced learning, as applying theoretical knowledge in a real-world international setting can deepen my understanding of my field of study in real estate and finance, and business in general. This practical experience can provide insights and perspectives that are not possible in a classroom setting in America.

This specific internship will also give me a global perspective on academic discipline. Exposure to international practices and methodologies can provide a broader perspective on my academic discipline. Understanding how different countries, specifically Ireland, approach similar challenges can inspire innovative solutions and critical thinking that I have not previously thought of. I will also get different research opportunities as an international setting can offer unique research opportunities that might not be available in America. Whether it’s access to different resources, populations, or data, this experience can be invaluable for academic projects or thesis in all ways.

Professionally, I will achieve career opportunities as an international internship can open doors to global career opportunities. Employers often look favorably on candidates with international experience, as it demonstrates a willingness to step out of their comfort zones and an ability to work in diverse environments. My professional skills will also evolve as working in a different country helps develop a diverse skill set, including cross-cultural communication, problem-solving in diverse contexts, and global project management. These skills are increasingly important in a globally interconnected business world. For industry insights, gaining exposure to international markets and business practices provides a deeper understanding of global industry trends and challenges. This knowledge can be crucial for careers in international business, trade, or any field with a global dimension.

This experience will also enhance my resume and CV. Having international experience can make my resume stand out to potential employers. It indicates not only professional competency but also qualities such as adaptability, cultural intelligence, and a global mindset.

An international internship is a transformative experience that offers extensive personal, academic, and professional benefits. It enhances cultural awareness, independence, and resilience; deepens academic understanding and provides unique research opportunities; and develops critical professional skills and opens global career opportunities. Each of these aspects contributes to building a well-rounded, globally-minded individual prepared to navigate and succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

I believe my time in Dublin will be an unforgettable experience and I am so grateful to be able to experience it! I am looking forward to meeting everyone at UCD and commuting with other people to my internship!
