Hi! My name is Diana Ulbrich. I am a rising junior at the University of Pittsburgh. I am majoring in Media and Communications with a pathway in Public Relations and a certificate in TV analysis and broadcasting. I am hoping to be able to work in sports broadcasting. My dream job would be a sideline reporter for the NBA or NFL. I am involved in different clubs and activities, including Pitt Radio and Pitt News. I also work for the ACC in production of the basketball games, baseball games, and more!! Outside of school and work, I am a part of soccer and basketball intramural teams and a member of Kappa Delta!
I am participating in the International Internship in Dublin, and am very excited to grow as a person personally and professionally. I was not sure if I wanted to take classes abroad or an internship abroad, and thought that an internship would be more beneficial for me. I loved the idea of working in a whole new country and getting a whole new experience. I chose Ireland because of how beautiful and historic it is. I am super excited to see the castles and the greenery. I have never been, and always have had an interest in going and the first language being English brings a little comfort to mind. I have been to Italy, France, Canada, and Costa Rica, so I have done some traveling myself, not just in the USA. However, I have never done it alone. A personal goal of mine is to be able to be more independent during my time in Dublin. I rely a lot on others whether it is my friends or family, and I am looking to be able to do activities or go to restaurants on my own. I want to be content with just my own company. Another personal goal I have is to not be afraid to try new things! I am a bit hesitant when I am not comfortable with something, as most people are, however I am not afraid to stand my ground and say no. However, I want to start saying yes. Yes to trying a new food, yes to trying something new. I want to not always say no, and having the opportunity to do something like this really gives me the push to be able to say yes to the things I normally wouldn’t!
Professionally, I am really excited to work in a whole new country and to see how they do things professionally. For my internship, I am going to be interning with the Laughter Lounge, which is Irelands biggest Comedian Club. I will be working behind the scenes with the social media and marketing aspect. I am super excited to start this internship, as it is a little off the beaten path of what I want my future job to be. As I said, I want to work in sports broadcasting, however to have an opportunity to work on something completely different may open my eyes to a completely different career path. I have changed my major about three different times, so I guess I am not completely sure what I want to do with my life, so having something so outside my box will be very interesting! My professional goals, similar to my personal ones, is to put myself out there. Be confident. I want to be able to voice my thoughts and opinions without being afraid of being judged or wrong. It is okay to be wrong, yet something I forget. I will start with voicing my opinion to one person and hopefully be able to grow to a whole group. Additionally, I want to be able to balance my personal and work life efficiently. I will definitely be put to the test, as I will want to be able to go see and do everything, but I will have to know that I am also there to get experience in the working world outside of the US.
All in all, I am super excited to gain much more experience that I can use in the future. Also, I am thrilled to find out if the public relations/marketing path is for me. Knowing I want to do broadcasting, it will be interesting to try a new direction with my major and do it in a whole new country. Time is going to fly by and I hope to be able to soak up every minute of it and continue to say yes.
