My Experience Solo Traveling

There have been many positive experiences during my three month study abroad program in Barcelona Spain. Many of them helped me grow as a person and gain more confidence in myself. The standout experience would be my six day solo trip. I was very nervous to do this trip at first, but by the end I became a lot more confident in my ability to be independent.

I had a break from my classes, but none of my friends were available to travel with me. I really wanted to travel somewhere new, so I had to step out of my comfort zone and go alone. I was very anxious leading up to it. I decided to go to Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. There was a lot of traveling between cities and countries, so a lot for me to figure out on my own. I started by flying into Prague. I spent two days there exploring the city. I mostly spent my time exploring Old Town because everything there was just amazing. Prague was the most unique city I’ve been to with a cool gothic vibe. It was a very different experience sightseeing alone than with friends. It was more relaxing, but not as fun. Although they were enjoyable.

I then had to figure out the train into Vienna. That was simple enough after all my time traveling. I only spent one day there, but it was a beautiful city. Then I headed off towards Budapest. I have heard a lot about this city from people on trips with friends. Some of the things they did I didn’t feel comfortable doing alone, so that was a bit disappointing. Part of solo traveling is figuring out the limits on what you are comfortable doing alone. I ended up having a blast in Budapest doing things that I enjoyed. I went to the Ottoman baths for a few hours and that was very cool. I also woke up to see the sunset over the city.

Overall, it was a very enlightening experience. I became more confident in being by myself and relying on myself to do everything without support being present. It was stressful at first adapting, but I know I am a much stronger person now. I can definitely do more trips by myself if there is someone I want to see. I highly recommend everyone try a solo trip for at least a weekend.
