Learning about the Business and Academic Environment in Sydney

I have just moved into Scape Darling Square located in Haymarket in Sydney. The neighborhood is right next to Chinatown and is a super central location with a ton of great food options and things to do such as the Darling Harbour and the Chinese Garden of Friendship. I live in a dorm with 7 other roommates and it has been such an enjoyable time so far. I have been able to adapt to this new living situation, and having great support from my roommates has been so helpful. There are a few similarities between my living situation here and Pitt such as the central location to the city and easy access to public transportation. Also, I have been lucky to have great views of the city in both situations as well as access to study rooms. Scape Darling Square also has a movie room, game room, and a gym.

I will be taking two classes, international finance, and an internship course, and I will also be completing an internship in the Business Administration and Marketing field. In the Finance course, I will be learning about the historical perspectives and foundations of international finance, the foreign exchange markets and exchange rate determination, exposure management, and financial management of a multinational firm. Next, the internship course’s academic material frames and supports my personal and professional development as well as the learning that takes place during my internship placement. At my intenrship, I will be assisting with web development, CRM management, and creating assets for the company.

To be successful in both the academic and professional environment, I will need to be adaptable, resourceful, and have the background knowledge necessary. I also will need to time manage and be able to successfully complete coursework and professional work. Overall, I am looking forward to the next 6 weeks studying, working, and exploring the amazing things that Sydney has to offer!
