Dear Me

Dear Pre-Departure Me,

It’s hard to believe that the adventure I always knew I wanted to embark on is one I am living. As my time studying abroad in London comes to an end, I want to take a second to look back on everything I’ve learned and seen and how I have changed. Thinking about how far I’ve come in just a few short months feels unreal.

First, I want to remind myself how lucky I am to have this incredible opportunity. Yes, you were scared and excited to start a part of your life in a whole new country,  culture, and a new educational experience. But now, looking back, I realize that this has been one of the most life-changing experiences. Living in London has changed my view of life, and that is something I would never have expected. I have traveled to new places, made incredible friends, and made monumental moves towards a future career.

Along the journey, I met some of the most incredible people and developed a greater understanding of the world. The people I have met here have added to my life and will be a part of it forever. My ability to adapt is among the things that have shocked me the most. I was anxious when I initially got here about balancing school with the internship I had at Platform Creative.

I was anxious about a lot, with adjusting to a new industry and being a part of the fast-paced work atmosphere in London. I can now say with confidence that I’ve been able to master the ability to balance both more than I thought I would. My experience working in public relations has opened my eyes to the value of creative relationships and storytelling. The challenges of my internship have allowed me to grow personally and professionally.

I would go back and tell myself to trust the process. It is very normal for things not to always go according to plan. I occasionally wondered if I was really doing well or if I was just wasting my time here. However, I can see how much I’ve changed when I look back. I’ve discovered how to enjoy the adventure and take things in stride.

Ultimately, this experience has made me more self-assured, receptive, and willing to try new things. I’m eager to use what I’ve learned going forward to be successful. I’m grateful for everything, London.

Best,

Me
