I grew up as a military child moving every 2-4 years. I’ve lived on 3 different continents and have been to 32 countries, so it’s safe to say that I am well traveled. However, the thing that makes this trip different from the rest, is the academic perspective and integrated language teaching.
自己紹介 Self Introduction:
My name is Lilianna Todorowski. I am a fourth year student in the college of business administration studying human resources management. My favorite classes thus far have been compensation and employment & labor relations! I greatly enjoy the projects that my department challenges us with through hands on learning experiences. In such projects I’ve worked with all kinds of people and organizations from the University of Pittsburgh faculty and staff themselves to outside organizations, like PNC. Currently, I am on the Pitt Climbing Team and have been climbing competitively for a year now. Outside of my studies I enjoy running, photography, and traveling!

日本留学プログラム The Program:
I am taking part in a Pitt Recognized Program called IES Tokyo 2025. I will be studying here in Japan for the next six weeks and am excited to take you through this journey with me!
The thing that made me pick this program and this place is my love for the Japanese language and the dedication that IES has to teaching it. The IES Abroad mission is to “educate students to become global citizens through programs…” IES works with AJALT, an organization of dedicated Japanese language instructors, eager to teach people in a way that helps them understand the country, culture, and people through the language. I am doing a high intensive Japanese language course during my time here which includes 100 contact hours and hundreds more through studying and planned integrated language learning trips.
My goal during this time is to gain discipline. Many would say to “learn more Japanese” or to “create a network”, which are all amazing goals, but discipline is the underlying foundation of it all. My main goal is to gain the ability to sit down and put an unbelievable amount of work and effort into learning a valuable skill. This valuable skill just so happens to be Japanese; a skill that allows me to communicate and connect with an entire group of people that I haven’t been able to communicate with before. I hope to gain access to not only Japanese, but the blueprints to learning a language and any other valuable skill I may need to further my goals.

Till next time,
Lilianna Todorowski
