Hi! My name is Kira Gulko, and I am originally from Philadelphia. I am a rising senior at the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business and a certificate in Corporate and Community Relations. In the future, I am hoping to pursue industrial-organizational psychology. During my time at Pitt, I’ve been fortunate to grow both inside and outside of the classroom. I hold two leadership positions in my sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon, as Senior Coordinator and Greek Sing Chair. I’m also a member of Psi Chi, the psychology honor society, and have been actively involved in Ballet Club since my first semester. Last summer, I held an intern position at a local non-profit, Women Against Abuse, on the advancement team, which further sparked my passion for working with people and helping my community. Outside of school, I work part-time as a barista and love spending my free time exploring Pittsburgh, discovering new restaurants, and going on hikes.
This summer, I am incredibly excited to be studying abroad in Dublin through IES Abroad’s Dublin Summer- History, Politics, and Social Change program. This six-week experience offers me the opportunity to step into a new environment while continuing my academic journey in a way that’s both hands-on and immersive. Choosing this program was a simple decision as it offers a unique and engaging combination of courses that align perfectly with both my academic interests and personal passions. I am planning on taking an Irish literature course, as well as a film course. Both are rooted in experiential learning, encouraging students to not only learn in the classroom, but also out in the city itself. I was especially drawn to the way classes are designed to get students actively engaging with Dublin in order to get the best possible education. My literature class already has plans to attend a performance of Brian Friel’s ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’!
My goals for this program are to step outside of my comfort zone, immerse myself in a new culture, and gain a deeper understanding of how history and politics shape society. I’m looking forward to exploring Ireland’s rich cultural and architectural history, as well as meeting locals and embarking on a unique experience. I hope to return home not only with academic knowledge but also with unforgettable memories and a new perspective on the world.
I’m so excited to keep the updates coming as I continue my time in Dublin!
