Hey everyone! I’ve been in Prague for a week now, and I’ve loved my time here so far. The city is one of the coolest and most interesting cities I’ve ever been to. The architecture of the buildings, castles, and churches are astonishing. Moving in was definitely an adjustment, but it didn’t take very long to get over the jet lag. I’m staying in the Belgicka Apartments, set up by EUSA. The living accommodations are nice too. On Friday, we went to Kunta Hora, which I’ll show a picture of below this.

I received my placement for the Czech company Nekrachni, a startup aiming to teach financial literacy through digital media. I’m excited to be working in the world of marketing and content creation. Think of it as telling stories and sharing ideas online. The company aims to teach people about money in a fun, easy way using videos on social media and their app. All content will be in English as Nekrachni is extending internationally. My job is to make content and study trends to get insight into what works. Thus far, it’s been a cool experience learning what it takes to do well in this field.
So, what do you need to be good at to succeed in making content and marketing it?
Key Skills
To really shine in the online world, you need a mix of creative thinking and a smart way of looking at what works.
First, being creative and coming up with new ideas is super important. The internet is full of content, so you must find ways for your work to stand out. This means always thinking of fresh angles, trying new ways to tell a story, and pushing past what’s already been done. For Nekrachni, this means finding new and interesting ways to explain money topics, so they aren’t boring. We try to make them exciting, whether it’s through fun animations, relatable everyday examples, or helpful interviews.
Second, strong communication skills are essential. This isn’t just about writing well or speaking clearly on camera. It also means explaining your ideas clearly to your coworkers, presenting your plans to others, and, most importantly, understanding and responding to what your audience tells you. In my role, this means writing video scripts that are easy to understand and listening to comments from viewers to see what they liked or didn’t like.
Third, you need to be flexible and ready to learn new concepts all the time. The world of digital marketing changes incredibly fast. How social media works can change, new apps pop up, and what people like watching shifts quickly. Someone who does well in content creation is someone who accepts these changes, eagerly learns new tools and methods, and isn’t afraid to change their plans when needed. After talking with the company, I know we’re going to try new video styles and look at the numbers to see how they perform so we can make better choices for the future.
Finally, understanding data and thinking critically are crucial. While creativity sparks the first idea, looking at data helps you make sure it’s actually working and can be improved. Knowing things engagement rate, viewer retention, or if they click on links is vital for making your content better and proving that it’s effective. It’s not enough to just create something; you need to understand why certain content does well and use that knowledge for future projects. For Nekrachni, this means carefully tracking how our videos perform to see which money topics are most popular and in what kind of video.
What’s Unique About Working in Prague?
While those skills are important everywhere, working in Prague has shown me some special things that really help here.
To start, understanding the local culture and how people here prefer to communicate. The Czech Republic has its own way of doing things, its own sense of humor, and how people talk to each other. What might be popular in other countries might not work as well here. If the content is made for a Czech audience, for example, this means making sure our money lessons feel right for a Czech audience. It’s about using language and examples that make sense to people here, not just translating words directly to English.
Another important aspect that I’ll have to get familiar with is the financial regulations and systems here in the Czech Republic. Money topics are global, but the specific rules, investments, and economy are different in every country. Being able to clearly explain Czech-specific financial stuff is important for Nekrachni to be trusted and helpful. I’ll be doing research to make sure the information is correct and useful for people living here.
Finally, even a little bit of Czech language knowledge is a huge plus. While many people speak English in business in Prague, being able to talk to local co-workers or understand everyday conversations in Czech can really help you fit in and work better. For a content creator, this could mean understanding local slang or knowing when a direct translation just won’t sound right in a video, especially for educational content. It helps you connect better with everyone around you. I’ve already picked up a handful of basic Czech words and plan on continuing to expand my vocabulary.
Overall, I’m very excited for my internship with Nekrachni in Prague. I’ve learned about the main skills needed for marketing and creating content, and also how important it is to understand the local culture and rules when you’re working in a specific country. The online world keeps growing and having these skills – both general and specific to the place you’re in – is how you do well in this field.
