I’m working in the marketing industry. I am designing and curating social media content through digital design. Specifically I am marketing a new bar in Prague called “The Jam”, where I am collecting content and designing posts for their business. Above I included a picture of their venue from their instagram. A key strength that is necessary to be successful in this industry is time management. There is a lot of remote work in marketing jobs because most of your tasks are online. Therefore one must be able to budget their time accordingly and have digital assignments ready for submission. Another key strength is communication, today I asked several questions about the attributes they were looking for in a new post assignment. I made sure to clarify that they wanted me to send the finished product directly to them, and not to post it. A necessary skill is also creativity, one must be able to think outside the box and create captivating material. Whether it’s a funny caption, a strategically designed title, bright colors, or an eye-catching reel. This is very important in marketing because grabbing the attention of your audience is how you sell a product or service. Leadership is also a good skill to possess, as this will help you guide others towards a path of success. Even though I am working under someone else’s business, I may have to utilize this task when generating my own content. Especially when taking the initiative to plan out content and propose new ideas. Some competencies that are necessary in the industry that may be unique to Prague are having multicultural communication. Most of their content is posted in several languages (including english) in order to reach vast audiences. Most of the time they include english, even though it isn’t their primary language, due to their large population of tourists and international students. This makes their content accessible to different languages across Europe, both locals and visitors. Which has also made me more aware of word choice and visual elements because the audience is full of people from different backgrounds. A necessary competency that is lacking in Prague would be the utilization of Tiktok as a marketing tool. It is a platform that significantly affects brand growth, and most Prague companies haven’t taken full advantage of it. While most of them participate in instagram and facebook, Tiktok has the ability to keep up with current trends. After listening to some of my friends, it also seems like their marketing companies rely too much on artificial intelligence in this industry, which can sometimes take away authenticity and charm. While AI can be helpful towards generating ideas, overuse can remove what makes the brand feel personal to others. I’ve been really focused on writing in a casual style, that makes it sound like I’m having a conversation with the viewers. That way the captions feel more inviting and entertaining to those who view them. Another thing I’ve noticed is that not every marketing company has prioritized visual branding in the way I learned to. Things like background pictures, logo placement, and cover photos can easily become an afterthought here. To me these are all things that can make a significant difference in an accounts daily views. Overall, even just working in Prague for a day has taught me how marketing can come in all different shapes and sizes. I’ve had to quickly adjust to these differences, but I also feel like im offering a completely new perspective.
