I have enjoyed interning for Evocreative, they are a marketing and branding company in Prague. Specifically, I have been creating content for their client, a local bar called The Jam. My main responsibilities are creating aesthetic posts for instagram and facebook that draw in new customers. I have also been working on collecting photos and videos from their main events in order to have good content to edit. Time management plays a big role in this position because I need to make sure I have designs and posts ready in time before their events. That way their followers have a heads up about upcoming events, and are more enticed to make an appearance. They also have a lot of customers that are world travelers from outside the country. Which means I need to prioritize posting at a neutral time to accommodate a wide variety of viewers.
My weekly schedule consists of being assigned my daily tasks around 9am. I then proceed to do research on my assignments from that day and gain inspiration for those particular design ideas. My supervisor typically expects these designs to be done by the end of the day. Therefore I try to complete them in an efficient and timely manner. I’ve come to realize that social media work is very dynamic, and there are a lot of last minute content changes. I usually try to provide an array of different designs in order to give my supervisor a couple of options. That way he can pick whichever he thinks is best, and fits his vision for the post. Though that can be a bit time consuming, it usually saves the time of starting from scratch. Which could always happen if my ideas don’t match what he’s looking for. Even though I’m working for a branding company, I am focusing on the content for a bar. Which brings new challenges when it comes to planning and working. Especially because I need to meet with the bar manager during their hours, and grab content during the hours of operation. All while completing assignments and generating posts during the day.
I have also been getting used to remote work, because that has never been an option for me. However on some days they prefer me completing tasks remotely, so I have time to grab content later at night. It’s also so I can post at a reasonable hour, when viewers are most likely to be online. It has been a little bit of a struggle to get adjusted to self discipline when I’m not in a work setting as well. I have to utilize my time management skills a lot in order to stay motivated in new environments. It can be especially difficult to do meetings virtually or get assignments over text because ideas aren’t usually as specific. I find it more difficult to communicate virtually because there’s less room for assistance. I adapt to these struggles by drafting posts ahead of time, and leaving my evenings open to grab content when necessary. Sometimes I even ask for new assignments early so I can get a head start on them before they’re due.
Google calendar has become my best friend during this internship. This application helps me plan out all of my tasks and know exactly when they need to be posted by. I tend to prioritize the posts for event promotions because those are usually following a strict deadline. Whereas regular posts are more for feed aesthetics or audience engagement. On some assignments my supervisor didn’t give me a deadline but I made sure to set one by the end of day. This is because after tracking my productivity I realized I work better under stricter deadlines. It gives me less time for procrastination, especially if I set the expectation that it will be completed by 5pm.
This internship has already significantly improved my time management through staying organized, remaining flexible, and clear communication. Balancing the remote schedule with in person meetings and content creation has definitely helped my productivity. It especially helped me to be more self disciplined and less reliant on others’ instructions for completion. I have gained a sense of independence when it comes to completing assignments and adapting to a new schedule. I have also learned how to work efficiently in new environments, and step out of my comfort zone. This experience overall has helped me grow in the marketing field by teaching me a variety of new skills that I can apply towards my future career.
