Week 3: Problem solving with incomplete information

Each week gets better here in Dublin! I have had such good experiences so far and am really excited for what will keep coming. On Monday I just worked and stayed home to hang out with my friends, as we were still recovering for our long day at Galway, CIiffs of Moher, and the Burren. I found that even through I want to do so much while I am here, it is still important to take rest days and recover. It is easy to get sick here if you are constantly traveling, working 9-5, and trying to explore the city as well. I have also found it is quite expensive, so it. is good to take days that I am not going out or spending money.

On Tuesday though I thought tit would be good to do work at a cafe. I went to a cafe right by St. Stephen’s Green Park, called caffe Nero. I got a vanilla latte and a scone and sat outside, enjoying the nice weather. It made the work day go by so much faster as I was in such a nice environment, having a great view of a busy street and beautiful greenery. After my work day ended, I went over to Grafton street and did some window shopping. This area is one of my favorite places because there are so many stores and it is so fun to just wander through the streets even if I am not gonna buy anything. After shopping for a little, I went over to Bambino pizza for an early dinner. I got a burrata pizza with hot honey and a glass of wine. I met up with friends in St. Stephen’s Green park and read my book until it started to get dark. I really like how light out it is till like 9:30 because even though I am working till five I still get to experience a lot of the day after.

On Wednesday I had work but then I went swimming after! I went to Dún Laoghaire with some friends and went to Forty Foot swimming area. It was really beautiful outside and the view there was gorgeous. All of the rocks created the shape of a swimming pool and it was one of the most beautiful swim spots I have seen. The water was freezing though, and I only went in for like a minute. It was really refreshing but honestly I thought I was gonna freeze. After I got a coffee and walked around the town for a little and it was really beautiful.

On Thursday I worked all day and then me and my friends went to our favorite pub, Mother Reillys. this place has it all- live music, good drinks, and great food. Last time I was there I got chicken but this time I just got dessert. We heard a really good band and played cards. I love the ambience of the different pubs and bars here.

On Friday I had a meeting with my boss in town to discuss my progress so far and it was a really good meeting. We discussed every assignment I had been working on as well as plans for this upcoming week. Since I do not meet with the head boss, the CEO, quite often, these weekly meetings are something I look forward to. She has a lot of experience in this industry and I value these meetings because I gain so much insight and advice from her. After that I got a burrito and sat back in the park to read my book for a bit before doing some work. Later on me and the girls went out on to the town and went to a couple bars for drinks. It was a really fun night and there was also live music.

Saturday and Sunday were pretty uneventful but I did go to the beach with my friends. We could not swim because there was a pollution flag for toxic waste in the water but we still sat and enjoyed the scenery. After that we went into Blackrock for some sushi and ice cream. Overall it was a really good week.

Some things I have struggled with in my internship is that my bosses put a lot of faith in me understanding and being able to perform well, so they do not give a lot of instruction. I was nervous at first because I was scared that I would be ding things wrong. I have come to navigate these issues by trying my best and sending examples of what I am doing as I am going to see that I am on thee right track. Thankfully, they are very communicative and helpful so I have come to be very comfortable in my work.
