Adapting to the Aussies

Hey gang, I cant believe only got a week and a half left in Australia but its been a great time so far. I’ve met many interesting people, seen so many cool things, and have been adapting well to the Australian way of life.

Some of my favorite places I’ve been are the two zoos i went to, those being Taronga zoo and the Featherdale Wildlife Park. At the Taronga zoo we did this thing called roar and snore where we got to sleep overnight in “glamping tents” at the zoo with tours before bed and in the morning. During the nighttime tour the guides led using red light flashlights as to not startle any of the animals leading to it being very dark along the way and us tripping over random rocks and bumps a lot. The animals did look sick under the red light some of my faves being the tigers, koalas, and especially the sun bear we got to see eat dinner. After feasting on a buffet of chicken skewers, sausage and more we made our way over to the glamping sight which was very nice almost feeling bigger than out hotel bedrooms. In the morning I was awoken by screeching monkeys and news that id get to feed a giraffe. The morning tour was my the best part of the trip for me because I got to see many of my favorite animals like capybaras, sea lions, otters, red pandas, pygmy hippos, and several different types of monkeys.

The second zoo we went to see a couple weeks later was part of our Blue Mountains day trip. this zoo was a lot more hands on and close up than the Taronga zoo. We got to roam around with and feed different kangaroos and farm animals which was very fun. My favorite moment was when my group first got to the Kangaroo exhibit and saw a man stop giving one food in which it responded by getting up on its tail and relentlessness kicking at him. Thankfully it didn’t do any damage to the man and was honestly hilarious to watch as the man started squaring up like he was about to have a boxing match with the kangaroo. later in the day we got to the blue mountain range which looked like a forested grand canyon. We then walked down to the bottom of a cool waterfall which we only realized how steep the steps down were when we had to go back up them.

Overall I think I’ve been adapting well to the Australian culture as its not that different from America just a little more relaxed in ways. I cant wait to see what the rest of this trip brings me but am also feeling a little home sick at this point. Either way its been great so far and Australia has met and exceeded my expectations.
