This week was really exciting. I had the opportunity to show my family around all the coolest places in Dublin. On Monday I met with my bosses to go over things I had been working on and what I should be working on this week. Coming up on the end of my internship I am really starting to get sentimental when I see my supervisors because they have been really good mentors to me in this time. They have given me advice on succeeding in the public relations world, working with me on digital media, building platforms, and finding connections to network. They also have helped me adjust to living in Ireland, given me advice on how to assimilate, and also great recommendations now here to go while I am here. I am really thankful to have been put in this placement an to get to work for them. We discussed my final projects nat the meeting, where I should be finishing off, and going over my improvement since the start.
On Tuesday I did some work and then my family I met for dinner and drinks at Doheny and Nesbitt. When my dad visited Ireland in his early 20s he couldn’t go to Doheny and Nesbitt because it was closed so it was really cool for him to have his first experience as a Nesbitt in Nesbitts! Also, my roommates came as well and my parents got to meet who I have been living with these past couple months. The dinner went really well and we got a bunch of Guinness and listened to some live music.
On Wednesday I had to work on some research for my boss. I had to look for companies in the UK that she could pitch her new project to and then go through the companies Linked In to find people for her to connect with. This took a long time because I had to sort through each of these companies pages, finding specific job titles in the United Kingdom. After I finished doing some research I met my family to go to the Guinness factory. This place was really cool and there were like 8 floors to go through with each having information on how to make Guinness. We got to get a Guinness with our picture on it. I had a drink or two with my family after the factory and got a sweatshirt from the gift shop before heading back home. That night my Dad and brother met me and my friends at our favorite bar, Mother Reillys, for some drinks and card games. There was a live singer there playing traditional Irish music and it was just overall a great night with good people.
On Thursday I had a lot of work to do because that night I was leaving for Paris! We had a really good flight and got in late but not late enough to walk around and explore the city a little. On Friday we went to the Eiffel Tower, walked around and then went over to the best shopping area in Pairs. I got a bracelet and did some window shopping before heading back to our airbnb to chill out. Then we went on a boat tour on the Seine and got to see so many cool monuments and buildings. The boat tour was one of my favorite parts of the trip. On Saturday we woke up and went to the Louvre and grabbed lunch where I got my first creme brûlée! It was delicious and better then what I could ever expect. We then went to the museum D’ Orsay and this was also one of my favorite parts. I have never seen such beautiful artwork n my life I could have spent hours in there. My true favorite part of the trip was that night when we had a picnic under the Eiffel Tower. The entire night was perfect and we got to see the Eiffel Tower sparkle! It was truly the best weekend of my life and I need to go back there.
I think learning the way people communicate in Ireland was an adjustment for me. I was not used to the kind of banter that comes quite naturally for most Irish people. I think there were also times I just did not understand what people were saying or talking about and I would just go on completely confused. People also talk really fast here which was hard for me to get with. I think I have now started to understand the communication better but it is still a struggle for me sometimes.
