Laying the foundation

For this project, I chose to be on the financial team. The reason I wanted to be in this group was that I have three brothers-in-law who work in finance. I have had extensive conversations with all of them about their work and day-to-day lives. This is what inspired me to pursue a career in finance and join the finance group. This morning, we had a meeting with Majella Orr from the Gteic co-working hub in Carrigart. To prepare for this meeting, we held a research session to explore the town and the issues it is currently facing. During our research, we discovered that Carrigart’s main problem is managing seasonal tourism. This issue has left Carrigart in a cycle of experiencing success in the warmer months, only to struggle heavily during their off-season. After obtaining a firsthand account from someone living in Carrigart, we decided to focus on a newly refurbished hotel and the amenities it offers. We plan to establish more connections between the hotel and local golf courses, host getaway events, and adjust the festival dates to avoid conflicts with other events. When we accomplish these goals, we hypothesize that these actions will have a ripple effect throughout the entire community, bolstering its overall economy. With this being Pitt’s first year working with Carrigart, we hope to lay a solid foundation for future students to keep assisting this hidden gem of a community.
