Today we had the chance to visit many different places on our way to Milford, where we will be staying while we are working with Carrigart during the remainder of our time in Ireland. We started our day visiting the Dark Hedges, which is a very picturesque walk, and a great place to pause for photos. It was featured in Game of Thrones, I haven’t seen the show, but many of the tourists in the area came solely to see the area where some of the scenes were filmed, while enjoying the grandeur of the unique trees. Today we also had the chance to visit Giants Causeway. We had a few hours to explore and hike the area; we went around many of the rock formations and it is easy to see why the spot is a popular destination for many visitors. The natural rock formation, and the absolutely gorgeous view, draw a large crowd, and are truly breath taking. We also visited a fort on a hill and saw the view that was very serene. We also got a tour of Derry, and saw many influential sites, we also learned that Derry is separated from a lot of the surrounding area by a river, which was key to its current state. All of the landmarks were centered on natural landmarks, and they were each unique. Each spot had a different story, and the people that rely on the site for revenue, share it in similar but different ways. The owners and/or curators tell a story about the landmarks that highlight the positive aspects of each site. The narrative often starts from the struggle and the pain but ends in success or the future growth of the towns, and landmarks. One way that the owners/curators could share the story more would be to share the story with a wider audience, by promoting the story of the area as a whole as well as the key aspects of different smaller parts that might have a more niche audience.
