Today was an important day in our trip, as it marked our first time visiting the town of Carrigart. Our day began with a visit to Mulroy Meadow Farm, where we were warmly greeted by the two owners. They welcomed us with enthusiasm and led us on a tour of their beautiful fourteen-acre property. The farm featured organized vegetable gardens, chicken coops, cattle, and various other aspects of their agricultural operations.

The owners explained to us how they are committed to sustainable farming practices and working in harmony with nature to provide food that is way beyond what you would find in your local supermarket. This commitment is a central part of how they present their brand to the public. They emphasize this message in their marketing to highlight what makes their products different from, and better than, those of their competitors. It’s essential for their customers to understand this value, especially when it comes to justifying the higher prices of their goods.
Visiting the farm made me realize how important family-owned businesses are in Carrigart. The owners, a husband-and-wife team, live on the property and are clearly passionate about what they do. Their dedication to their land and their work was evident in every part of the visit.
After leaving the farm, we headed to a local gift shop, where we met the owner. She took us outside and talked about the operational side of running a business in Carrigart. She explained how she has to adapt to the town’s seasonal economy. Carrigart experiences very different levels of activity between its peak and off seasons, which makes it difficult for businesses to maintain a consistent customer base throughout the year. Because of the town’s small population and limited year-round foot traffic, many businesses in the area have unfortunately been forced to close or move elsewhere.
Later in the day, we participated in a scavenger hunt around Carrigart, which gave us a chance to explore more of the town in an interactive and enjoyable way. I found the activity fun and a great opportunity to engage with the local community. During the hunt, I spoke with several people from the area who shared their personal stories and the reasons why they chose to move to Carrigart. Hearing their experiences added a deeper level of meaning to our visit.

What I have come to understand about Carrigart is that it is a town where small businesses are truly valued. Business owners here take great pride in what they offer and strive to build meaningful, personal connections with their customers. That sense of community and care is what makes Carrigart stand out.
