One of the biggest takeaways during my experience was differently my time management skills. While working mostly remote I was tasked with budgeting my own time. With the exception to deadlines on when posts should be posted. I began to figure out how long designs would take me to create and set aside time accordingly. While working in this position it is also important that you are always on call in case your supervisor needs you to do a last minute story or event promotion. For me this was difficult to get used to because on the weekends I was trying to explore Prague. However with time I figured out a way to always be available and make designs from anywhere. The most important thing was communication and availability. I made sure I was always responding to messages and asking questions for clarification. As well as problem-solving with tasks so that I didn’t have to bother my supervisor with unnecessary distractions. A really helpful tip for me was going to the library or a coffee shop on remote days. That way I still had wifi but I could also be in a structured environment. I felt it easier to motivate myself to complete work on remote days. When I was at the Jam though I loved getting content. Filming and photographing their concerts and events was so much fun. I would think of different ideas to capture these moments and appeal to new viewers. For the most part I just wanted people to appreciate this place the way I did. I truly loved going to work, exploring new cultures, and hearing new styles of music. I loved collaborating with my supervisor on designs and working with his feedback. Even the last minute critiques and suggestions kept me on my toes and challenged me. Overall this experience has helped me grow, and pushed me to become a better designer. I think it is so vital to work in another country, especially when learning buisness. It teaches you how to work independently and understand the global buisness world.
If I were to do anything differently I would have brought a bit more structure to their marketing. Because I was working directly with a client they didn’t seem to have set goals or specific expectations. Their directions also weren’t very clear but this is what helped me ask clarifying questions. I would have suggested more schedules at least with posting, in order to stay consistent. Another thing I would’ve done differently is engage with more content creators. If I would’ve had enough time to reach out to some of Prague’s influencers, that would’ve generated a lot of attention towards their business. I also would’ve loved more time to grow their tiktok account. In order to do this you need to understand the type of following you want to build, and know the people that already follow you on other platforms. It’s especially hard when most people in Prague don’t use tiktok as much. It’s becoming a new platform, therefore their followers on Instagram might not even have the app. However what I tried to do what search for accounts that followed them on Instagram. I would also interact with other league businesses to get their name out there. I would leave encouraging comments, and repost videos. I also tried to post regularly in order to stay up to date with recent trends.
Overall my favorite part was the people I met along the way. My supervisor was super helpful and fun to work with. He was always encouraging and understanding. He also have me a lot of great feedback which helped me improve my marketing skills. My coworkers also gave me compliments and suggestions on my work, which allowed me to receive an outside perspective. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience and I’m so glad I was able to learn so much.
