Exploring Italy!

Ciao! My name is Kayla and I’m a junior at Pitt, where I’m studying finance and marketing. In school, I’m involved in Phi Chi Theta business fraternity. Currently, I am studying abroad in Florence, Italy! We are studying through a program called CEA CAPA. This program has given me lots of opportunities such as traveling, discounts, and taking exciting classes. During my stay, I hope I learn to speak some Italian and learn more about the history of the country.

I always knew that I wanted to study abroad and Pitt Business has so many great opportunities to do so. I chose Florence because Italy has always been my number one place that I’ve wanted to visit. From Florence, I am able to travel all around Italy by train, which is so convenient for exploring the rest of the country. So far, I’ve already been to Rome and Bologna!

So far, I’ve really enjoyed living in this city. I love exploring the streets, meeting locals, and trying new food and gelato! I walk so much here! I live in an apartment with eleven other girls. Our apartment is located pretty far away from classes and the central city, but it is very nice. Since we are farther away, it is quieter. This is nice for when we have movie nights, which my roommates and I try to do once a week as a nice way to unwind.

Adjusting to Italy was tough at first. Adjusting to the new time zone took a couple of days and the time difference made it hard to talk to family and friends back home. It was also difficult to navigate around the city because it felt big and overwhelming. Now, though, I feel so comfortable here and know my way around. I’ve found local spots that have become my favorite places to go. As I’ve adjusted, I feel so happy to be here and am so thankful that Pitt has such great opportunities. I’m excited about what the next couple of months have in store for me!
