I have just finished my fifth week of my internship at MyTelescope in Stockholm. As the month of July rolls on and the end of this program is starting to become visible, I am becoming less comfortable with the thought of leaving Stockholm. This past weekend, we had the opportunity to visit Vaxholm, which is a larger island that is part of the archipelago surrounding Stockholm. The town of Vaxholm was quite small, but very idyllic. It is very reminiscent of other coastal vacation locations that I have visited in the past, and it is slowly convincing me to move back to Stockholm given the chance following graduation. I am conflicted with my excitement for another study abroad opportunity in London this upcoming fall, but I have enjoyed the ability to live in Swedish culture. I hold a similar sentiment for the work that I have completed. I am excited to continue to make projects as they are now coming into their final form. Most of the work that I have completed thus far has been preliminary research of some form. It has been a mix finding information to actually make a deliverable and working on smaller tasks that are still important, just not as exciting as the main project. However, I am not looking forward to my internship ending because it has been very enjoyable working with my team. Although I work mostly hybrid due to a lack of space in our office, I have been able to spend quality time with my coworkers. I have also grown quite attached to MyTelescope as a whole. I am not looking forward to the end of my internship. Throughout my weeks so far, I have had the ability to work on a handful of projects that have piqued my curiosity and allowed me to develop some transferrable and technical skills in a number of ways. The main project that I am working on was developing a use case for investment analysts to use MyTelescope as a tool. I spent the first few weeks learning about different industries that coverage analysts could benefit from the most when identifying companies positioning relative to their competitors. MyTelescope is the most applicable for industries that customers would be consistently searching for products and brands. The tool utilizes search data from thirteen different platforms along with other custom artificial intelligence to generate a full stack marketing experience. I was able to get in contact with an analyst at an investment bank who covers the hotels and travel industry. The hotel and travel industry fits well with MyTelescope as most consumers book and search for hotels and accommodations almost exclusively online. The goal of the meeting was determining if the tool would be beneficial for a coverage analyst to use the tool. Following that meeting, I have been working on developing a report that proves it would be useful to those in the financial industry. Most of the skills I have developed so far have been transferrable. For example, I have been learning how to search for information through methods that are efficient and accurate. I have made use of databases that are specific to the topic at hand. For the sake of this project, the information that I was mostly looking for ways to gain a general idea of the processes that investment professionals work through a project so I could find information gaps. However, now that I’m developing a case study, I am now looking at finding accurate data, so these databases have become very useful. Now with the popularity of general artificial intelligence large language models and other ai tools, it seems as though the popular method would be to use these tools to find that information as a time save. However, AI can still hallucinate and report inaccurate data. What I have found useful, would be using these tools to find databases based on what I’m looking for. As for more transferrable skills, my written communication as well as verbal has improved. When I was searching for a coverage analyst to assist me with this project, I wrote many cold emails. Obviously, it had to be personal to each analyst, while remaining concise and professional. I have also gained experience through writing notes from testing the AI tool, writing suggestions for the onboarding process, and descriptions for our website. As for technical skills, I have developed more familiarity with machine learning. I am using a machine learning process as part of my method to statistically prove how accurate MyTelescope is for predicting market trends. I have also learned quite a lot about understanding financial models like a DCF and other valuation methods through my research. Overall, I am very pleased with my experience here in Stockholm, and I think this experience is a great steppingstone for me professionally, even though I’m not sure where I’m headed next.
