It is currently day 2 of my Haller Global Honors Fellowship program, and I have to say that I’ve experienced almost every emotion during this new part of my life. I’ve felt super eager to explore the city of Pittsburgh and the campus since it is my first time setting foot in this place. But I also felt homesick, being away from family stings, and it is not a pleasant feeling to endure. But this program has much to offer and I’m willing to take the opportunities and make the most out of my time here and the work I will be doing!
Some things I’ve noticed since I arrived here in Pittsburgh is that it reminds me a little bit of the city I grew up in, Minneapolis MN. In my view, the scenery, the rivers and bridges throughout both cities, and I learned that both cities come from industrial roots! Sure they have some differences, but growing up in Minneapolis has helped a lot with the similarities here in Pittsburgh. The University is no different, the campus is located right near the city of Pittsburgh, and there is a lot to explore and discover. Since my arrival, I made it my mission to explore the campus and learn some of the local secrets before the fall semester starts! Knowing your way around campus will be a lot easier and less stressful in my point of view, especially for people who’ve never stepped foot in campus such as myself. Learning where the good study spots are; the traffic hours; the busiest times for the Recreation centre are all good pointers I’ve grasped on only being here for 2 days! What I’m most excited throughout my time in Pittsburgh is to find decent food locations both money and taste wise.

Moving onwards to the most important part of our program, our Consulting Project! In our time here in Pittsburgh, the ten people (including myself) are split into three teams, each team focusing on different parts of the business branches, and I chose Digital Disruption and Innovation. I’m interested in working on this part of the Consulting project because this particular work I’m doing correlates with Business Analytics! This also correlates to the classes I will be taking this fall semester, so this will be good practice and gives me a head start compared to the other incoming Business Analytic students. Another reason why I chose this for my project, AI no matter what will be a part of our lives, and maybe five to ten years, who knows what it could be capable of. I strongly believe that instead of completely ignoring AI or even using it 100% for yourself, we incorporate it as a tool in the Business/Economic world.
