This week was the long-await Helsinki trip! After a (long) boat ride, we got to spend a day wandering around Helsinki and seeing the sights!

Although it was (incredibly) expensive there, I had an amazing time looking around, shopping, and generally being a tourist.

I have never really considered myself much of a “leader”, but if I had to describe my style, I’d say that I’m more laid-back and willing to let others give their ideas and opinions. I don’t like talking over people and pushing things in my direction. I try to give others encouragement, especially to do things their own way and work to their own strengths.

Overall, I think my leadership style has stayed the same. Since I don’t really work with other people I don’t find myself exactly leading anyone else. The most I’ve done is encourage my fellow intern to work to her strengths in international relations, while I try to focus more on the communication side of things.

One thing that I have found for myself is what types of leadership I dislike. I prefer leadership that works with the people involved, rather than leaders that simply hand out tasks while their own work is effectively a black box.

I hope that I become a better leader because of this experience, but I think that those skills will likely come from elsewhere.
