This morning in Fanad, it was clear how important Carrigart is to the people who live on the peninsula. Fanad felt peaceful and remote, but that also means everyday necessities aren’t always close by. Carrigart seems to act as the community’s main hub, a place where people can buy groceries, visit local businesses, access services, and catch up with neighbors. It felt like more than just a town as it seemed to be a place that helps keep the surrounding rural communities connected. In an area where people are spread out, having a strong local main street feels essential to daily life.

We also visited the Tyrconnell Tribune, Milford’s newspaper printing company. He showed us around and how the machines had operated, and how much dedication is put into weekly newspaper for the civilians. I think a model like this could work back home in smaller towns where people know each other and care about local issues. However, in larger cities, where communities are more spread out and people often rely on social media for information, it would be much harder to sustain.
