Hi! My name is Shaneel Kalan and I am a rising junior at the University of Pittsburgh. I am currently studying Supply Chain Management and Business Information Systems while pursuing a certificate in Business Analytics.
In less than 3 weeks I will be on my way to Sydney and I could not be more excited. As much as I love to travel, I have never been that far away from home and I am looking forward to the opportunity and experience. I am taking an Australian cinema class and interning at The Drinks Association of Australia. While in Sydney, I plan on traveling around Australia and New Zealand to see the amazing landscapes and structures around.
One of the reasons I picked Sydney when I wanted to study abroad was because it is so similar yet completely different to the United States in work ethic and daily life. I was born in South Africa and lived in Dubai, UAE, for most of my life before moving to Princeton, New Jersey, and then ending up in Pittsburgh. Having exposure to different cultures around the world excites me to see and compare all of them to the Australian culture.
The biggest challenge I face is managing the time between my classes and my hour-long commute to my internship site by train. I have to figure out how the public transportation system works and how to use my time efficiently in the 6 weeks I am abroad.
I cannot wait to be in Sydney! Stay tuned for updates!
