ISA Madrid: Alyssa Schaefer

Hi! My name is Alyssa Schaefer and I am a rising senior at the University of Pittsburgh. Here at Pitt, I am pursuing a dual major in Marketing and Supply Chain Management, a Spanish minor, and a certificate in International Business. In addition to this, I am on the executive board for the American Marketing Association. This past school year, I served as the Co-VP of Regional Conference and next semester, I will be serving as the VP of Community Service.

I am originally from Media, Pennsylvania, “Everybody’s Home Town.” In my free time, I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, playing with/photographing my adorable cat, and exploring the city of Pittsburgh.

I am very excited to be studying abroad in Spain this summer with the ISA Madrid Program. I chose this program and location because it has always been a dream of mine to visit Madrid. This specific program will allow me to take two summer classes while enjoying all that Madrid has to offer. This summer, I will be taking an “Art in Spain” class and a “Spanish Theatre in the 20th Century” class. I am very excited about these classes because I have always been interested in art and theatre and because they involve little to no math- no offense to my accounting professors!

I am a big fan of food, so I am very excited to get the full Spanish cuisine experience (paella here I come)! I am also very excited to practice my Spanish skills and put nine and half years of studying to the test. While I am looking forward to improving my Spanish skills, I know that fully immersing myself in the language will be challenging. I am also nervous about navigating and figuring out transportation in a new city. Despite my less-than-stellar sense of direction, I know my trip to Spain will be amazing and adventure awaits at every (possibly wrong) turn.

Be sure to stay tuned!
