A Week of Firsts

I can’t believe it’s already been a week since I started the program! The nerves left me after the two-day orientation, and over the weekend, I fell in love with all of the major tourist areas of London. I saw Big Ben, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the House of Parliament, Soho, and Piccadilly Circus.

While all of these sites are fantastic, I have already grown attached to Camden, where my flat is located. It’s an eccentric neighborhood brimming with life at all times of day. The Camden Market is also one of the best open air markets in London, and I could spend days shopping there without seeing everything!

I am living with four other girls, Denise, Shpresa, Allie, and Sara in a flat a block away from the nearest tube station. I share a room with Sarah, and it is very small, but our living room and kitchen are spacious. We have two bathrooms, so it hasn’t been too difficult adjusting to the living arrangements.

The London Underground, better known as the Tube, is very easy to navigate…there are signs at every turn! It only takes me 20 minutes to get to work one-way, and it takes me 30ish minutes one-way to get to school. I work at Sister London in Soho on Carnaby Street, and I attend class at CAPA, which is in South Kensington.

I absolutely love Sister London! It is a vibrant, open-plan office. The firm specializes in public relations, marketing, design, social media, and analytics. Everyone in the office is very welcoming, and I’ve already been asked to help with various different projects. Another CAPA intern is working with me too!

I had my first class today. I was late to class because the Piccadilly line of the Tube was delayed, but thankfully, my professor was understanding. I am taking Childhood Development in the British Context with Dr. Helene Guldberg. Tomorrow, I have class with her again as well as my internship class, which prepares me for creating a portfolio of the work that I complete at my internship over the course of six weeks.

Overall, I am thrilled to be here, enjoying everything that London has to offer. Although I’m not a big fan of fish, I am definitely a big fan of chips and pints! There’s something for everyone in this city, and I am so glad that I can explore it for the next five weeks!
