My first week in the Czech Republic was all about traveling and exploring the city of Prague as much as I could. This past week was focused on starting my internship and getting comfortable in my workplace environment where I’ll be spending the next 2 months at. So far so good, I had a great first week and am looking forward to working at DDC Financial for the rest of the summer.
As I rode the tram to work on Monday morning I was extremely nervous. Starting a new job is always intimidating, but starting a new job in a foreign country where you don’t speak the language is something quite different. Within my first 30 minutes of being in the office most of my worries had passed. Everyone I work with is fluent in english and were extremely kind and excited to have me working there. The office is quite diverse with my coworkers being from all around the globe and being able to communicate flawlessly in multiple languages. I am working with people from Prague, Cyprus, Greece, Slovakia and the United States.
The company that I work for, DDC Financial, is one of the leading promoters of distressed securities in Europe. This past Thursday we held a huge investment forum for Central and Eastern european emerging markets. I really enjoyed being involved in this event and had the chance to meet prominent investors from Croatia to Germany. We even had a golf outing the day before the event where I was able to participate and get to play with Investors from the UK, Austria, and Poland. Overall my first week working in Prague was a success and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer brings!
