I can’t believe that the program is already half over. Time has been flying by because of all the things we’ve been doing to explore the city, work, and classes. My internship is going really well. My boss and I get along great – so much so that she offered to take my roommates and I out on her boat this past weekend to see the grand finale of VIVID, which is a city-wide light show that has been going on for the past few weeks. We went out on Friday and had a blast. Seeing the city from the water provides a unique point of view that I really appreciated.
When I’m in the office my daily tasks mostly involve analytics of different metrics about basically everything related to marketing regarding the Eels. My boss allows me to be involved in meetings, give my opinions on certain topics, and she takes me offsite whenever she does as well. I really like being able to give my opinions because people actually listen to them. I’m part of the Marketing team so when we have weekly team meetings we brainstorm promotional ideas to try to get more people to buy tickets to our games. I came up with the an idea that was built upon by everyone and we’re actually implementing it at our next home game. It’s exciting to know that real fans are going to see the idea in action and knowing that I had a hand in making it happen is really rewarding.
My Sport Management class is still going well. The fact that the class is so small actually really benefits me because I feel like I am getting the most out of the material as possible. The material all revolves around different aspects of sports and I’ve learned so much already about how much planning goes on behind the scenes to make huge events like the Olympics happen. It’s amazing to me how much I wasn’t aware of and I’m grateful I have this chance to learn about it.
This weekend we took a trip to hike through the Blue Mountains and see some animals native to Australia. The kangaroos were my absolute favourite – some were actually really friendly and I was able to get some good pictures. We also hiked from Bondi to Coogee Beach which was really cool because the whole hike was on the coast. Australia is absolutely beautiful – I don’t think I’m ever going to get over it.
