Settling in London

Hello! My name is Joe Wilson and I am a Junior Finance and Marketing major from the University of Pittsburgh. I am from a town outside of Philadelphia called Oreland, PA. I am currently writing this blog from my new flat in the Shepard’s Bush section of London as I am nearing the end of my first day in the UK.

My trip to London is the first time I’ve been outside of the United States and I am excited to see what becomes of this opportunity. After settling into my new flat I joined some of my fellow program members on a tour of the nearby area, and I am already trying to get used to everything being opposite from the US. The area itself is packed with shops of all sorts and has a nice outdoor market place right around the corner from my flat. Since its only day 1, I have yet to get out and explore what London truly has to offer, but I can’t wait too!

London appealed to me as a rugby player and a golfer, but most importantly, the idea that London is the financial capital of Europe really intrigued me to choose this specific program. The opportunity to intern as a finance major in London was to good to pass on. I am nervous about starting my internship next week as I am not quite sure my role. However, the company I am interning for is fascinating and seems to be at the center of it all here in London.

I am excited to start orientation tomorrow and learn more about my classes and internship; and I am excited to keep you all update on my adventures here in the United Kingdom.
