Hi! My name is Connor Doran and I am lucky enough to have been selected to participate in the Pitt in Dublin program this summer. I was born in Princeton, New Jersey and grew up in Newtown, Pennsylvania. I love playing and watching all types of sports, hanging out with my friends and Fraternity brothers, and trying new restaurants in and around Pittsburgh. My favorite professional sports team is the Philadelphia 76ers. I have three sisters- Shea (15), Kelly (My Twin- 19), and Maeve (21). If you couldn’t tell by the names, we are a very Irish family!
On campus, I am an active brother of both a social fraternity and well as a professional business fraternity. Pi Kappa Phi, my social fraternity, has been a huge part of my college life so far. Here, I have met so many life long friends and continue to make memories with them every day. Delta Sigma Pi, or DSP, was my first involvement on campus and has already given me so much. Through networking events, professional speakers, and site visits, this organization has built me professionally so well and continues to with every day passing.
I have just finished a very successful Sophomore year in the CBA where I am a declared Finance and Business Information Systems. Alongside that, I am also pursuing a Business Analytics Certificate. I find myself enjoying subjects and classes that have more to do with math than with intangible concepts, but have very much enjoyed taking many of the core-courses in the CBA. Like so many of my peers, my favorite professor is Ray Jones who also happens to be the Faculty Advisor of Delta Sigma Pi.
For the last few summers, I have worked in the Business Development Office of a local Ford dealership. Here, I have learned a whole lot about sales, finance, and common business practices. I feel that it has given me a great business backbone. I’m not sure exactly what I want to do after college, but I’m thinking something along the lines of Data Analytics within a Finance field. I believe that Data Analytics is on the rise in many industries and would love to get myself involved in that while demand is high.
The program I am lucky enough to be going on is the Pitt in Dublin program It is a four-week program in Dublin, Ireland and offered an opportunity to complete 6 credits. Some of the reasons I chose this program are 1) I come from and Irish family and have always dreamed of visiting and 2) It fit into my academic plans extremely well and offered courses that will help me complete some of my requirements.
Because I have never traveled outside of the country, I am hoping that this summer will open my eyes to different cultures and ideas that I have never been exposed to. Additionally, I hope that this program will assist me in becoming a better listener and learner. Lastly, I hope that I am able to make some professional relationships to open the door to a possible future in Global Business.
I can not believe that this adventure is so soon and can not wait to get there!
